First Impressions – Battlefield 1
Now that I got that out of my system, I am ready to talk about my experience with Battlefield 1, the highly anticipated new game in the Battlefield series. Now, they asked that we don’t take pictures or video during the demo, so I apologize for the lack of pics and footage. It may be because the demo we played was pre-alpha.
We started off in a small room. One of the DICE developers greeted us and showed us a fantastic presentation. We saw the first trailer and the new E3 trailer for Battlefield. We saw concept art and learned about a few settings for the game, including Arabia, France, and Italy. We learned about the conquest map we were going to fight in – yes, that’s right, we played a 64 player demo!!! The game played on the PC and we could choose between keyboard/mouse and a Xbox controller.
There are so many cool aspects to this game! The graphics looked great. The weather can play a key role in the game. I had different weather both times I played. I gotta tell you, playing as the scout class in fog is a little challenging. You had the option to choose between 4 classes (just like previous Battlefield games). The classes played out like traditional Battlefield classes. We had access to trucks, tanks, and airplanes. One amazing part of the demo included the new Zeppelin that is seen in the trailer. You can control in on the battlefield! It can drop bombs and has multiple machine guns to rain fire on the enemy below. If you thought the destructible environment was fun, wait until you see what happens when a Zeppelin hits the ground!
I appreciated that the demo allowed us to customize our soldier a little. We had different primary and secondary guns to choose from, and each gun showed you how the bullet will drop over a distance!!!! That was an incredibly useful stat for me. You also have different grenades and melee weapons. Speaking of melee, sprinting towards an enemy then hitting the melee button will make your character bayonet an enemy. It is bloody and glorious.
It pains me that we have to wait until October for Battlefield 1. I absolutely loved the demo and can’t wait to see more. Remember, the game comes out Oct. 20th, unless you have EA Access. If you do, you get it Oct. 13th. Many, many thanks to EA and DICE for having a huge 64 player demo at the event this year!!!!
