There were some rumblings and rumors this morning about the Xbox Exclusive Scalebound. As Kotaku reported earlier in the day, Xbox didn’t mention Scalebound when discussing their 2017 lineup on Xbox Wire and has not been spoken about it since Gamescom of last year.
Well, it looks like the rumors are true. Microsoft released a press release to several press sites about the future of Scalebound. Here is what they said –
“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound.” We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2,” “Crackdown 3,” “State of Decay 2,” “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences. This is obviously terrible news for Platnum Games, Microsoft Studios and those who have worked hard for many years to bring Scalebound to the public. It sucks to see all of their hard work be cancelled.
It feels like development hell plus a weak showing at E3 may have influenced this decision. Personally, I felt the the inclusion of the gameplay right after showing Final Fantasy XV may have turned off gamers. By playing them back to back, it made Scalebound look like a copy of Final Fantasy XV. The dragons were really cool, but I think the presentation could have been better.
