Square Enix Announces Partnership with Marvel!

by on January 26, 2017

Today, Square Enix announced a multi-year partnership with Marvel!  The news was announced on social media and an ensuing press release gives more detail about the new partnership.

According to the press release, this partnership is multi-year and a multi-license agreement.  The games will feature Marvel’s Avengers, with the first game being developed by Crystal Dynamics, in partnership with Eidos-Montréal.  Crystal Dynamics developed the award-winning Tomb Raider series, and Eidos-Montréal is responsible for the award-winning Deux Ex series.  The press release says the first game will feature a completely original story with all of your favorite characters.  Right now, things are in the very early stages of development, so we will here more details about Avengers and other projects in 2018.

“Marvel’s diverse, innovative universe has created millions of longtime fans, including all of us,” said Phil Rogers, CEO, Square Enix Americas and Europe. “It’s exciting to bring together Square Enix’s award-winning development studios with Marvel’s extraordinary storytellers to establish a new entertainment powerhouse.  This collaboration of passion and talent will craft epic, imaginative experiences allowing gamers to live out their Super Hero dreams like never before.”

I’m 100% down with this announcement!  Tomb Raider and the relaunched Deux Ex series are fantastic, and I can’t wait to see what they do with this series.  How long has it been since we had a true Avengers game (not counting Lego)?  Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance?  I’m really hyped for this and excited to see what kind of original story they can come up with.  If you aren’t excited enough, check out the little teaser that was released with the announcement –
