Ryan’s E3 2019 Predictions!

by on May 24, 2019

For the past few years, I have had a blast writing predictions for E3.  Typically, I’m completely off with my predictions.  Yet it’s fun to speculate and guess what we will see during the biggest show of the year.

But this year has been different.  Sony has pulled out of the show completely.  EA and Activision will be present, but will not have a booth.  Inner turmoil has hit the ESA.  The lead up to E3 has been so bizarre that I have no clue what will happen.  Usually, my predictions are outrageous, but I feel like making them even crazier.  Despite the bizarre lead-up, there is a genuine buzz about what we will see.  So with that in mind, here are my bold (and out there) predictions for E3 2019!

The recently acquired studios will tease their projects, but no release dates – In the last year, Xbox announced the acquisition of Ninja Theory,  Playground Games,  Undead Labs,  Compulsion Games, Obsidian Entertainment, and InXile Entertainment.  It’s a solid lineup of talent along with The Initiative and The Coalition.  The acquisition of these studios created some great buzz.  I think Xbox will continue to excite gamers by announcing their projects.  I still think it is way too early to have release dates.  But I can see them showing some teaser images or trailers to get fans excited.

We will see Halo Infinite gameplay – This is an easy one.  We’ll finally see some gameplay after the cool teaser from last year.  My gut instinct says it will release in 2020.

Release dates for Gears, Ori, and Battletoads – I think these are the big 1st party Xbox releases for 2019.  I predict that Ori and Gears will appear in the fall and Battletoads will arrive in August.

Yes, they will announce another console…but not the one you think – I’m honestly not sold on seeing an announcement for the next generation Xbox console.  I think we will see more bundles, or more iterations like the All Digital, but will not see Xbox Anaconda or whatever the name will be.  I think we will talk about cloud gaming instead of the next generation console.

OH, YOU THOUGHT I WOULDN’T HAVE A PREDICTION? Yes, I know they said they won’t be at the show.  My only prediction is that we’ll see a surprise State of Play during E3.  I’m most likely wrong, but I think it will still remind everyone that Playstation has great stuff coming out this year and beyond.

Pokemon Sword and Shield deep dive – Last year, Nintendo went into a deep dive and showed a ton of Smash Bros. content.  I think Pokemon Sword and Shield will take that spot this year.  The focus will be on gameplay and story.

Animal Crossing will steal the fan’s hearts – In my opinion, Pokemon Sword and Shield will be the big draw at E3.  But Animal Crossing will have a better showing.  We’ll get a gameplay trailer that will get fans hyped out of their minds.

Pokemon Snap remake will be a surprise addition to the 2019 lineup – Can you imagine???  Fans would lose their minds.  I can see a winter 2019 release date and beautiful footage featuring new Pokemon.  I also predict that this would be the only major surprise during the Nintendo Direct.

One tease for 2020 – I know they said 2019 lineup only, but I can help but think about how they end their Directs.  It seems like there is always “and one more thing.”  So I think we will get a little teaser for a big game in 2020.

Best of the Rest – 3rd Party Predictions

Cyberpunk 2077 will get Best of Show – The hype surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 is unreal.  More gameplay will be shown, and I think it is a safe bet that it will win all the awards.

No big surprises for Ubisoft and Bethesda – Both companies will show off some exciting gameplay and release dates, but I don’t expect huge surprises (sorry Splinter Cell fans).  And no, I don’t expect a Beyond Good and Evil release date.  I still think it is years away.

No Avengers trailer from Square Enix – I think this would be a huge mistake and I hope I’m wrong.  But I don’t think we will get any footage.  If we see anything, it will be another teaser trailer.  Definitely no release date.  And no, I’m not stupid enough to predict a release date for Final Fantasy 7.

Left 4 Dead 3 and Rocksteady’s Justice League will be announced – These will never come true, but I will hope for these announcements until the day I die.

E3 2019 will run from June 11th – 13th in Los Angeles, CA.

I would love to hear your predictions for this year’s show.  Let us know what you think will happen in the comments below or on social media!
