Oh…Sir! The Hollywood Roast is a spin off of the 2016 hit ‘Oh…Sir! The Insult Generator’. The idea of the game is simple, create the best roast and get your opponent to soul to crush. It is a hilarious at it sounds, but not as easy. What makes this one so much better? It comes with an amazing Hollywood spoof.
You get to choose from some epic spoofed Hollywood characters such as ‘The Greasy Wizard’ (Gandolf) or ‘Dirty Potter’ (Harry Potter). Each has their own comebacks and weaknesses, I’ll get into those later. When the round starts you stand off with your opponent just like a fighting game. You then take turns selecting phrases off of the list in the middle of the screen. Once the phrase is selected it will disappear and cannot be selected in that round. After each round that list will refresh. You also have a script to pull two phrases out of that aren’t on the board and this can be refreshed once per round. The idea is to make the best and longest roast out of those phrases. If you are lucky there will also be conjunctions (and, but, or) that will allow you to drop that bomb on that poor bastard across from you. Now depending on your opponent they will have some weaknesses, some being personal issues, others such as wealth. If you can get these into your roast you will gain extra points to knock off of their morale (health) bar. You can easily get some epic roasts if you think it through before picking your phrases. You will lose points for bad grammar and if you cannot finish a roast (if you run out of phrases to make a complete sentence) your roast will do no damage. On the other hand, if you continue using the same subject (if it is available) you will build combo’s and multiply your score!
One of the best new features include the “Comeback”. Once you get a few roasts against you, depending on how they were your Comeback meter will rise. There are three levels within the meter and The higher the meter is the better your Comeback is. For example The Greasy Wizard had comebacks like “Put that in your pipe and smoke it.” and “Now fly, You fool!”. The Greasy Wizard also has a ‘hype hobbit’ comes out to drop that Comeback a little harder. Using these at the end of your roast can score you some serious points. On top of the Comeback feature The Hollywood Roast includes two times more insults than the original, that should please some fans for sure!
Graphically, the 2D pixelated presentation fits the mood perfectly. The audio and voice overs are fun to listen to, especially when you’re dropping a 100+ point bomb! (Proof below). The voice overs surprisingly don’t sound as robotic as you’d think when having to read your cluster of a roast out loud. Now don’t expect much of a story out of this, it’s more for entertainment. There is a career mode that will take your character through a few roast battles and at the end you unlock a new character to roast with. There are three objectives to each battle and if you meet them you will get a Golden Parrot, think of them like three stars. Once you start getting these Golden Parrots you will unlock more Comebacks for that character. Plus if you get bored of the characters Steam Workshop is also included so you can download some new characters..such as Adolf Hitler… There is also a Twitch integration option if you want it to stream it you can allow your users to join in.
Overall Oh…Sir! The Hollywood Roast is an amazing game if you’re looking for a good laugh and to lose a few hours. Roasting spoofs of celebrities and crushing their soul could be one of the most satisfying feelings I’ve had for $3.99…Yes this game is also four dollars. Would highly recommend picking it up to waste some time with it, especially if you are a streamer, your viewer may get a kick out of it!
