Radical Heights Arrives Tomorrow

by on April 9, 2018

I was a bit taken aback by the announcement of Radical Heights.  We knew there would be more arena games that would challenge the dominance of Fortnite, PUBG, and H1Z1.  But a new Battle Royale game from the makers of Lawbreakers?  What is this all about?

If you haven’t seen it, check out the trailer, which was released today –

According to an article on the Boss Key website, Zach Lowery (Creative Director of Radical Heights), said the following – “Radical Heights is a five-month passion project for the studio as we’re creating and publishing the game entirely by ourselves.  We’re huge fans of Battle Royale games along with the bright, inviting irreverence of the 80’s aesthetic. Because of that, we want to put our own spin on the genre and create a futuristic 80’s world that takes place in 2023 during an over-the-top game show where contestants battle it out for fame and prizes”.

Radical Heights looks like your basic Battle Royale game, with the big addition being the inclusion of money in the game.  You can take a risk to collect as much money as possible for weapons and cosmetics.  Or, you can play it straight and be the last one standing.  We’ll have to wait and see if the rewards for gathering the money will be worth it.

The bottom line is this – I’m excited to see more options for Battle Royale games.  I hope this one finds an audience, and it has the potential to do that in Early Access.  It’s free, which will hopefully bring more people to Steam to try it out.  Of course, it will be buggy and take some time finding it’s groove.  But again, there is potential in Radical Heights, especially if they follow community feedback and give options to players that are not found in other games in the genre (custom game modes or mods, perhaps?).

Radical Heights is available tomorrow on Steam, and you can find it here.
