PS4 System Software Update – 4.50
On February 3rd, all those that signed up for BETA Access the latest in software development for the Sony PlayStation were given access to the latest 4.50 Software for the PS4 Console. With it come many new features including External HDD Support, Custom Wallpapers, Quick Menu Refresh, Simplified Notification List, Post on PlayStation Network Activity Feeds, and bringing support for 3D Blu Rays to the PSVR Headset.
The feature I am most excited about would most likely be the external HDD Support along with the 3D BluRay Support option for PSVR. It will be interesting to see what the PSVR can offer for 3D Blu Rays, as well as the added support with of external hard drives, it opens up a world of options for saving and gaming storage. Keep scrolling for more details on each of these new features. More features are to be announced in the coming weeks as well a release date for this new 4.50 Software Update.
External HDD Support
This is an exciting feature as most love the idea of upgrading the internal storage of their system. This new feature will allow you to add on storage on top of the existing internal storage. With the new layout for External HDD Support, you will now have the ability to store applications directly on an external drive up to 8 Terabytes of space with easy management directly through the settings menu.
NOTE: User save files are still stored locally on your PS4 HDD. Only games and applications are stored externally.
This update adds the ability to set your favorite in-game screenshot as the background image for PS4’s home screen with a few other features as well.
Quick Menu Refresh
Quick Menu will cover even less of your game-play screen, and you’ll be able to access handy Party features via Online Friends, like creating new parties, inviting friends, and joining parties, without transitioning to the separate Party app.
Simplified Notification List
Condensed all of the tabs to a single simplified list, making it easier to see all of your notifications all at-a-glance.
Post on PlayStation Network Activity Feeds
Ability to post directly into the Activity Feed, which appears in a variety of places across the console, including What’s New.
3D Blu-rays on PlayStation VR
Adds the ability to view 3D movies in stereoscopic 3D directly on the PS VR headset.
