Nintendo Announces E3 2018 Plans

by on April 27, 2018

Can you believe that we are weeks away from E3 2018???  As I have mentioned previously, I love hearing about company plans for the biggest gaming convention of the year.  We have already heard news from Microsoft, and last night, Nintendo announced their plans!

The festivities will start June 11th with the opening rounds of the Splatoon 2 World Championship.  The opening rounds will take place at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles from 3:30 pm PST to 6 pm PST.  The finals will take place on June 12th after the Super Smash Bros Invitational.  Tickets to the event will be handed out on-site at the Belasco Theater each day of the event and it will be streamed live on https://e3.nintendo.com, YouTube, and Twitch.

At 9 am PST on Tuesday, June 12, Nintendo will debut a Nintendo Direct featuring games releasing in 2018.  Right after the presentation, a Nintendo Treehouse will begin.  During the 3 days of E3, Nintendo Treehouse will show live gameplay, have appearances by developers and give an insider look at the games.  The Treehouse will also be streamed at https://e3.nintendo.com, YouTube, and Twitch.

Those who are in attendance at E3 will be able to play a variety of games, including Super Smash Bros.  Some upcoming third-party games will also be available.  If you can’t make it to E3 and are in the New York area, then you will have a chance to watch the live streams and play a selection of games shown at Nintendo’s booth during E3.

In a press release, Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said the following – “Every year we take a look at E3 and craft the best experience for our fans, regardless of whether they are attending the show or watching from afar.  We expect that each of our E3 activities will give an additional boost to the already strong momentum enjoyed by Nintendo Switch.”

Additional details about Nintendo’s presence at E3 2018 will be shared in the coming weeks. For the latest updates, keep an eye on https://e3.nintendo.com.

The big takeaway from this announcement is Smash Bros will be playable at E3!  The presentation and Treehouse have occurred on the first day of E3 for the past 2 years, so the fact that they are doing it again comes as no surprise.  I do like that fans can check out the tournaments in person on June 11th and 12th!
