Microsoft Offering Refunds on Digital Purchases?

by on April 12, 2017

Reddit user u/gaymerRaver posted a very interesting photo today on the Xbox Reddit page.  Raver, who appears to be an Xbox Insider, shared a photo of an announcement that self service refunds are coming to Xbox One and Windows 10!

Those post provides some key details about this refund program –

  • It must be refunded within 14 days
  • The game cannot be refunded if you have logged in over 2 hours
  • The game is the only thing that is eligible for refund (DLC/Season Passes/Add Ons are not eligible)

There are a ton of questions about this program, and many Reddit users brought up the majority of them.  What if you bought a digital deluxe game with season pass/add ons included?  What happens if you accidentally leave your game running idly?  Are all games a part of this policy or just new games?  Does the policy work for games that are on sale?

I’m sure Microsoft will post a FAQ about this IF this rumor is true.  Although it is just a rumor, I will say that this is incredible news.  The policy is pretty similar to Steam and will probably make me switch to digital only purchases if this becomes reality.  Game purchases are expensive, and the opportunity to refund games will benefit all gamers.  Personally, I will be more willing to try games that I would normally avoid if I had the chance to refund them if I hated it.

We will update this article if this rumor turns out to be real.  In the meantime, what do you think about this new policy?  Let us know in the comments below!

Steam’s been doing it for a while, No Man’s Sky took a major hit. But I believe this could make developers a bit more apt to producing a good product. It’s only going to be good on digitally purchased games too.
