Halo Wars 2 Blitz Beta Coming Jan. 20th

by on January 11, 2017

We have a new beta coming soon for the Xbox Exclusive Halo Wars 2!  Microsoft announced today that the beta will feature the brand new game mode called Blitz.  Microsoft had this to say about the game mode in their article on Xbox Wire

“Blitz is our new twist on RTS gameplay that combines the deck building and split-second decision making of card-based strategy play with explosive tactical combat in the Halo universe. Your card deck, along with your faction leader, are your greatest resources as you assemble a collection of air, ground and infantry units and seek to out-think and out-maneuver your opponents on the battlefield. We’re really excited about this new mode and look forward to unleashing Blitz upon the community to play and run through its paces prior to launch.”

Admittedly, I have not played a lot of RTS games in my life time because…let’s be real…I’m not very good at them.  However, a card based mode sounds really interesting to me.  I enjoy card strategy games, and there is a huge fan base that enjoys them as well.  Mixing card games with Halo lore sounds like a great way to persuade a different type of gamer to try Halo Wars 2.  I’m curious about some details of Blitz, like amount of time for each turn and how easy it will be to play if you are a novice card player.  With these questions in mind, I’m very happy that Microsoft is using a beta to let fans try it before launch.

The beta will begin on January 20th and end on January 30th.  Keep in mind that any progress you make will not carry over.  However, according to Microsoft, players who login to the beta and complete at least 1 match will earn Blitz card packs in the full retail version of the game.  Not a bad reward for trying out Blitz!  It also sounds like Blitz will be the only game mode available during the beta.

Halo Wars 2 will officially launch February 21st, 2017, and is a Xbox Play Anywhere title.  If you purchase a digital copy, then it will work on both Xbox One and PC.

If you plan on trying out Blitz, let us know in the comments below!  We will hopefully see you online when the beta is available!
