First Impressions: Dragon Ball Z Kakarot

by on June 19, 2019

Relive the story of everyone’s favorite Saiyan Goku in DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT! Live the epic battles. Experience life in the DRAGON BALL Z world as you fight, explore, and train with Goku. Explore the new areas and adventures as you advance through the story and form powerful bonds with familiar heroes from the DRAGON BALL Z universe.

In a previous article, I showcased the announcement trailer for this game. Back then it was going to be called Project Z. I for one actually liked that name a little better, but hey I’m not the boss. The nice thing about Kakarot is that it’s a different Dragon Ball Z game than what we have grown accustomed to.

The developers have definitely upped the difficulty in this newest addition to the DBZ universe. You actually feel like you are playing as Goku on his journey to becoming a better fighter. Players won’t be able to just button mash their way to victory like in other games from. As Goku you will have to be strategic in your fights as well as leveling up your skills along the way.

You will play through iconic DRAGON BALL Z battles on a scale unlike anything before. Fights will take you across vast battlefields with destructible environments. Along the way, you will experience epic boss battles that will test the limits of your combat abilities(and fingers).

Thankfully enough I was able to play a demo while attending E3. Game-play was fluid and the combat was rewarding as well. The demo took players to the first big battle in the Dragon Ball Z series, in which you battle Goku’s older brother Raditz. Adding the exploration element to the mix was nice added touch.

I will say that the camera angles bugged me. Now I won’t harp on that too harshly with it being a demo after all. The game doesn’t release until sometime next year I do believe. So they can take all the time they want to work out the bugs. As an avid Dragon Ball fan, I have high hopes for this game when it releases.

Oh, I forgot to mention you get assistance in your battles from other DBZ characters. Like for instance during the Raditz fight, Piccolo was fighting alongside Goku. So this is really going to make you feel like you are playing the anime we all know and love. When the game releases I have a challenge for my fellow fans of Dragon Ball Z. Increase your power level and rise to the challenge!
