During my adventure at E3, I was able to play the demo for Darksiders Genesis. Now, this is the latest installment in the Darksiders franchise where players get to take control of the fourth horseman Strife. Genesis is not like your traditional Darksiders experience. Darksiders plays a lot like Diablo with more of a top-down view, whereas the others were more of a third person(legend of Zelda esc.)
Now I loved this gameplay personally. It was fun and not over-complicated, which is a nice change in today’s games. The idea is that players will be able to switch between War and Strife. Both will add different gameplay experiences. Where Strife will be utilizing guns, War will be more a hack and slash.
I’ve always loved the art style of this franchise and this new installment didn’t disappoint. If anyone has played the Battle Chasers game, Darksiders Genesis reminded me a lot of that experience. Both have unique characters with a similar look and feel to the gaming experience. I was sadly only able to briefly play the game due to the event being packed and wanting to make sure that others got to play as well.
Now, the main premise of the Story is as follows:
From the dawn of creation, the council has maintained the order across existence. The Horsemen, Nephilim (powerful beings spawned from the unnatural union of angels and demons) were a task with being their enforcers. They have pledged themselves to the Council and thus have been granted immense power.
However, this power came at a tragic cost. The Horsemen were ordered to wipe out the rest of their kind. A blood bath then ensued on Eden where the Horsemen annihilated the Nephilim.
Still dealing with the events on Eden, War and Strife have been given a new mission from the council. Tasked with taking out the demon king himself “Lucifer”. Lucifer plans to destroy the Balance by granting power to his demon army in Hell. War and Strife must hunt, gather information, and ultimately fight their way through a demonic conspiracy that threatens to forever upset the Balance and unravel all of life itself.
Overall, I’m excited for more of this game. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and cannot wait to see where they take it from here. I would love a demo released on the switch so I have something to hold me over until the game’s release.
