Today, Microsoft announced some fantastic news for Gears of War 4 fans! Starting today, cross play between Xbox One and Windows 10 will be available for Social Quickplay!
Cross play gives Xbox One players and Windows 10 players the opportunity to play against each other. Microsoft held a test weekend last year in order to gather data for cross play capabilities. According to the Xbox Wire report, over 750,000 matches were played and the team gathered a ton of data to help make this decision.
Currently, the plan is to make Social Quickplay a permanent cross play game mode. For the next few months, Social Quickplay will be monitored closely to get player feedback and make sure everything goes smoothly. As of right now, there are no plans to bring cross play to competitive and core modes. We can hope that Microsoft will add some kind of ranked option for cross play. But for right now, I am very satisfied with at least one option for cross play. I still think that the future of gaming will need cross play capabilities, and I applaud any effort to bring cross play between consoles and PC to gamers! The ultimate dream will be cross play between Xbox and Sony, but that may never happen in my lifetime.
