There was some interesting news out of 2K that we wanted to share with you in case you missed it.
Yesterday, 2K announced that there are multiple football games in development and will be partnering with OneTeam Partners and the National Football League Players Association for these games. The partnership grants 2K the right to feature names, numbers, images, and likenesses for over 2000 current NFL players. We can expect these games to start launching in 2021.
In a press release, the President of 2K, David Ismailer, said the following – “We’re thrilled to be working with the NFLPA and OneTeam to bring the biggest and best starts in football to the games we’re working on. We want to give fans experiences that are authentic, memorable and fun, and having a roster of real-life sports heroes through the Players Association and OneTeam is a huge part of delivering that promise.”
One thing that caught my attention in the press release was the tidbit that these will be non-simulation football game experiences.
So that begs the question – what will 2K do with these rights? My guess is we will get some kind of arcade game, perhaps a game like the upcoming WWE Battlegrounds. Perhaps a spiritual successor to NFL Blitz? We’ll find out soon enough.
I know we all wish the announcement would be the return of NCAA Football on our consoles, but what do you think of this news? Would you play a non-simulation football game? Let us know in the comments!
