For the last few years, EA Play has been the publishers answer to participating in E3 in the traditional way. EA Play is their way of getting far away enough from the general noise of E3 so that they can garner more eyeballs and control their messaging.
It is a pretty smart strategy and honestly, that kind of thing is expected from a billion-dollar, multi-national company like EA.
With E3’s virtual event over (and not all that well-received), EA is taking advantage of this lull to inform the masses of their 2021 and 2022 plans.
However, this time around, instead of EA Play 2021 happening over a few consecutive days, it seems that their virtual events will be spread out over the month of July.
According to the official schedule released by EA today, there will be 5 different streamed events. EA told us the first four events will be “spotlights” and have a panel format. The last event will be the “main show” and be streamed live.
The first spotlight on July 8th will be solely focused on the “future” of EA’s first person shooters. So it is likely we’ll see more of Battlefield 2042 and maybe some sneak peaks of other FPS games to come.
A few days later on July 13th there will be another spotlight titled “EA <3 Independent Studios” so fans of indie games will want to tune in.
Then on July 19th and 20th will be back-to-back spotlights focusing on Madden 22 and EA sports respectively.
Finally on July 22nd will be “EA Play Live” which is according to EA will show “a collection of EA games with new things to reveal.”
You can see the full schedule (with air times) below. What do you think about EA’s strategy of spreading their streams out over the month rather than all over one consecutive week? What announcements are you looking forward to hearing from EA?
