E3 Journal – Day 1

by on June 13, 2016

Day 1 is in the books, and it has been quite the adventure.  Yesterday featured conferences for EA and Bethesda.  My flight was delayed, so unfortunately I had no chance to get to EA.  So I decided to try Bethesda!

I arrived at Venue around 3pm.  I was full of hope – the Bethesda website wrote that they let in 1000 fans at last years conference and they will do the same!  I met some fun people in the stand by line and took everything in.  Around 5pm, people with passes started arriving.  I saw many media members from various outlets like IGN.  As time passed, things became a little worrisome.  The line for people with passes kept being delayed.  And soon enough, we realized that we would not get in.  The press conference started late, but they filled it to capacity.  So we watched like everyone else – on Twitch!

I was very excited for a few things from the conference.  Skyrim will be remastered for current gen consoles.  I can’t wait to get back into that world with updated graphics and mod capabilities.  Prey was announced and the trailer looks very cool.  Loved the detail of the graphics and I am very intrigued by the story potential.  Then, they announced something that I cannot wait for – Fallout VR.  Fallout VR was coming to the HTC Vive!  I am really interested in seeing how movement works and how the visuals hold up in VR.

We then received word that although we are missing the conference, we will get into the afterparty.  I knew I had to get to the VR station as soon as possible.  As soon as I got through security, I ran over……to see a massive line.  Oh well.  While waiting, I took pictures, got footage of the event, and ate a TON of food (they had In N Out, turkey legs, cupcakes, and a ton of appetizers).  They had free drinks all night long (and water for the non drinkers like me).  They set up stations to play Doom Multiplayer and EOS Legends.  And to end the evening, Blink 182 came out and performed about an hour and a half.  The audio was a little off (Mark Hoppus was REALLY loud), but they put on a great show.

Unfortunately, the party ended before I could play VR.  They told us it will be available on the show floor, so I will be in line waiting to try it out and bring you my thoughts.

Day 2 will be busy – Microsoft Press Conference, PC Gaming Show, and EA Play.  I will write up everything I see, including looks at Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2.  Stay tuned!!!
