Happy Birthday, Nintendo 64!!!! It’s hard to believe that we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of this beloved console. Like millions of you out there, I owned a 64 and played it a ton. In honor of the 20th anniversary, I wanted to look back and create a list of the top 10 N64 games. Keep in mind, this is my list and is open for debate! If you agree or disagree with the rankings, please let us know in the comments or on social media!! Without further ado, here is my top 10 list of the best N64 games.
Honorable Mentions – Super Smash Bros, Donkey Kong, F-Zero, Earthworm Jim, Mario Party, NBA Courtside, NFL Blitz, Pokemon Snap, Turok, Perfect Dark, Superman….hahahahahahahaha ok just kidding, relax 🙂
10. WCW vs. NWO World Tour
Some of you may not be fans of wrestling. However, there are some great wrestling games out there, and WCW vs. NWO on the N64 was a classic. It had a ton of stars and great action. Plus, you can get as many weapons from the audience as you want!!! Chairs galore!!
9. 1080 Snowboarding
Classic snowboarding game. The gameplay was extremely fun and included a great soundtrack.
8. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
This game had an insane amount of replay value. Amazing soundtrack and plenty of levels to skate on for hours at a time.
7. Star Fox
Man, Star Fox was a great game. The controls worked smoothly and it was a blast to play with friends. Do a barrel roll!!!
6. Major League Baseball Feat. Ken Griffey Jr.
Hands down the best baseball game of all time. I got these hands for you if you think otherwise. The baseball gameplay was great and the trade system was easy to manipulate to you can have all the superstars on your team!! Don’t forget the Ken Griffey home run cheat code that makes him hit a home run every time!!
5. Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
I admit, I did not appreciate this game when it came out. It was an odd story. However, I realize now that this game was a wonderful addition to the series. Having a time limit, working with masks, and using time travel wisely were really challenging additions to the game.
4. Mario Kart 64
Racing with Mario characters??? Sign me up! Luckily, this game featured classic tracks and power-ups that make racing chaotic and fun.
3. Super Mario 64
What a fun title. This game had 3D levels, colorful worlds, and classic enemies. Collecting stars was also a welcome challenge to the Mario universe.
2. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Oh, what a classic. The story, the gameplay, and graphics were amazing! Arguably the greatest Zelda title of all time, Ocarina of Time told the perfect Zelda tale. The bosses and temples were challenging and fun. And luckily, future generations will have access to this title thanks to the Virtual Console.
Sorry, Mario. Forgive me, Link. The top 3 can go any way. But for me, Goldeneye wins the coveted #1 spot. Hours upon hours of time was spent with friends on this game. Not only was the single player fun, but the multiplayer was some of the best of it’s time. Remember, no one gets to play as Oddjob!
So what do you think? Was I right? Or horribly wrong? Feel free to let me know in the comments!!
