While most gamers would have prefered an NX announcement this morning, Nintendo surprised us with a different kind of announcement.  This holiday season will mark the return of the NES!

The Mini Collector’s Edition NES is a replica of the classic console that is connected to your TV using an HDMI cable (cable included).  It will have 30 NES games built into the console:

  • Balloon Fight
  • BUBBLE BOBBLE
  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest
  • Donkey Kong
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • DOUBLE DRAGON II: THE REVENGE
  • Dr. Mario
  • Excitebike
  • FINAL FANTASY®
  • Galaga
  • GHOSTS’N GOBLINS®
  • GRADIUS
  • Ice Climber
  • Kid Icarus
  • Kirby’s Adventure
  • Mario Bros.
  • MEGA MAN® 2
  • Metroid
  • NINJA GAIDEN
  • PAC-MAN
  • Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
  • StarTropics
  • SUPER C
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • TECMO BOWL
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

It comes with one NES controller that can also be connected to your Wii Remote and used to play Virtual Console games.  You can buy another controller for the suggested retail price of $9.99.  All of the games on the NES console will feature multiple suspend points, so you can walk away and save your progress at any time.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like you can insert your old NES cartridges into the new system.  It also doesn’t look like you can download any other NES games to the console.

The suggested retail price is $59.99, which is an incredible price point for 30 classic games.  Some of you may already own some of these games on the Virtual Console, but come on – you know you want to have the console back on your TV stand!!!!  No word on when it will be available for pre-order, but the mini console will release on November 11th.

I know I will be picking it up.  What about you?  Let us know in the comments below!
