Nintendo Direct Recap

by on January 11, 2018

Fans this morning were treated to another fantastic Nintendo Direct!  For those of you who missed the early morning announcements, here is a quick recap!

  • Dark Souls: Remastered is coming to the Switch!  Nintendo announced that the remastered game, which includes the Artorias of the Abyss DLC, will arrive May 25th of this year.  It includes improved framerate and resolution.
  • Mario Tennis Aces was announced this morning, bringing the tennis franchise to the Nintendo Switch.  It will include a story mode (the first since Mario Tennis on Game Boy Advance) which offers a variety of missions and boss battles.  There will be a variety of different characters and gameplay challenges.  Look for Mario Tennis Aces this spring.
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will launch on the Switch on May 4th.  It will include the original game plus a new mode featuring Funky Kong.
  • Kirby Star Allies arrives March 16th.  There is also a demo in the Nintendo store for Kirby Battle Royale
  • Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition was announced.  It will include all 29 characters, every map and mission from the Wii U and 3DS versions, plus all the previous DLC content.  It will arrive this spring.
  • The 2008 DS game The World Ends with You has been updated with HD visuals and a new epilogue.  It will launch later this year.
  • Got some information about SNK Heroines, Payday 2, Ys VIII, Fe, and Celeste
  • Super Mario Odyssey will receive a new mini-game called Balloon World.  It will arrive with a free update (and available when you complete the main story).  It features Luigi and looks like a big Hide and Seek minigame with balloons.  New outfits and filters will also be available.  Look for it in February.
  • Donkey Kong will arrive in DLC for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle!
  • Finally, a Battle Pack is available for Pokken Tournament DX and a demo is available for Dragon Quest Builders

The big announcements for me are Dark Souls: Remastered, Mario Tennis, and DLC for Mario Odyssey.  I’m hoping we get more DLC for Mario that will bring me back to the game.  I finished the main story and didn’t have a desire to keep going.  Mario Tennis is perfect for the Switch, while Dark Souls is a curious addition to the lineup.  I can’t wait to see all those YouTube videos of people throwing their Switches out of frustration!

Feel free to check out the Direct below, and let us know which announcement you are excited for!
